Demolition & Skid Steer Services in Waco: What We Tear Down

By EZ Junk Haul

Plenty of Waco projects stall at the same point: the thing has to come down before anything else can happen, and it is bigger than a weekend with a sledgehammer. That is the gap our demo crew fills. Below is a straight description of what we tear down, what actually drives the timeline, and where the dumpster fits.

Small Structures: Sheds, Decks, Fences, and Pergolas

This is the bread and butter. A backyard shed that has been leaning for three summers, a deck with soft boards, a cedar fence line that finally gave up, an old carport or pergola. Most of these are a same-day or half-day job with a skid steer and a crew, and the debris loads directly into a roll-off rather than sitting in a pile in your yard for a week.

The variable that matters most is access. A skid steer needs a gate opening or a clear side yard. If the only path is a 30-inch gate, the job becomes hand demo and the timeline changes — worth mentioning when you call so the quote reflects reality.

Hot Tubs, Above-Ground Pools, and Play Structures

A hot tub is one of the most common calls we get, and it is a genuinely bad DIY project. They are heavier than they look, the shell has to be cut down to move it, and there is usually wiring and sometimes gas involved. Have a licensed electrician disconnect the circuit before demo day. Same story with above-ground pools — the liner, frame, and the deck around it are three different disposal streams.

Interior Tear-Outs and Gut Renovations

Selective interior demolition is its own skill: taking out cabinets, flooring, tile, tubs, non-structural walls, and ceilings without touching anything load-bearing or cutting a live circuit. If you are running a remodel and want the demo phase compressed from two weekends to one day, this is the service. We stage the container at the door, gut the space, and leave it swept and ready for your trades.

Mobile Homes and Full Structures

We take down mobile homes, manufactured homes, and small structures across McLennan County and the surrounding area, including rural acreage properties where a derelict building has been sitting for years. These jobs need more lead time than a shed, because there are real prerequisites.

What Has to Happen Before a Structure Comes Down

  • Utility disconnects — electric, gas, water, and sewer must be formally cut and capped by the utility or a licensed trade, not by the demo crew
  • Permits — most cities require a demolition permit for a structure, and rules differ between Waco, Hewitt, Woodway, Robinson, and unincorporated county
  • Asbestos survey — federal rules require an inspection for regulated asbestos-containing material before demolition of most structures, and older Central Texas homes frequently have it in siding, floor tile, and pipe insulation
  • Lead paint awareness — relevant for pre-1978 structures and for the crews working on them
  • Septic and well — rural properties often need tanks pumped and abandoned properly

None of that is meant to be discouraging. It is meant to explain why a full-structure quote comes with a timeline and a shed quote comes with a date. Skipping the survey or the permit is how a demo turns into a stop-work order.

Concrete, Slabs, and Site Work

Cracked driveways, old patios, sidewalks, and slabs come up constantly in Waco's clay soil. Concrete is a weight-limited load rather than a volume-limited one, so a slab tear-out is quoted differently from a shed. Clean concrete with no rebar or dirt mixed in can sometimes be routed for recovery instead of disposal, which is worth asking about on anything larger than a patio.

How Demo and the Dumpster Work Together

The reason we do both in-house is that they are the same job. A demo crew without a container generates a debris pile that becomes your problem. A container without a crew means you swing the hammer. Booking them together means the debris goes from structure to container to gone without an intermediate pile ever existing in your yard.

For most residential demo, a 20 yard is the right container. Small shed or short fence runs can fit a 15 yard. Heavy material like concrete or masonry is sized by weight, so call and describe it rather than guessing from cubic yards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a permit to demolish a shed in Waco?

Requirements vary by city and by structure size. Small accessory structures often do not require one, while anything with utilities or a permanent foundation usually does. Check with your city's building or development services department, and check your HOA covenants if you are in a subdivision.

Can you demo a house with the contents still inside?

We would rather clear it first. Household contents change the disposal stream and the weight, and there are almost always items inside that cannot be landfilled. Many customers pair a cleanout — dumpster, junk removal, or both — with the demo scheduled a few days later.

How much does demolition cost in Waco?

It depends on the structure, the access, the material, and whether utilities and surveys are already handled. A backyard shed and a mobile home are not in the same universe. Call (254) 723-6146, describe what is standing, and we will give you a real number rather than a range that means nothing.
